[Update on current care guideline: diagnostics of acute myocardial infarction].

Abstract
In a patient with acute chest pain or other symptoms suggestive of acute myocardial infarction (MI), a 12-lead electrocardiogram with at least two additional leads (V4R and V8), should be immediately recorded and evaluated. Telemedicine transmission of prehospital electrocardiograms for diagnostic evaluation should be part of regional systems of care. Troponin T and I are the recommended biomarkers for MI diagnosis. Implementation of uniform diagnostic criteria for acute MI is a prerequisite for high quality epidemiological studies and for the development of proper performance indicators to assess quality of care.
