[Life-threatening hemorrhage after tonsillotomy in a child : A structured recommendation for action in the prehospital setting].
Die Anaesthesiologie · 2026-10-28 · Guideline / consensus
Abstract
One week after an uncomplicated ENT-surgery in a 7-year-old boy, a sudden and massive hemorrhage from the oropharyngeal area occurs. The arriving emergency medicals find an apathetic child with active bleeding and recognise quickly the need for immediate action. Based on this case report, the measures taken and an overview of surgical procedures involving the palatine and pharyngeal tonsils in children, a guideline for prehospital care is proposed to enable structured action in such a potentially life-threatening situation.
